The day of an elderly person is generally celebrated on the first day of the second autumn month - October 1: this celebration has an international status. On December 14, 1990, the UN General Assembly decided to consider October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons, in order to draw public attention to the problems of the elderly. By the way, the date was not chosen by chance: there is an opinion that old age is a golden time, autumn, as you know, is also called a golden time, which is why it was decided to give the older generation a special day in the midst of the fall season.
In Russia, in 1992, a special resolution of the Supreme Council Presidium «On the problems of older people» was adopted, in which, on the basis of the significance of the UN recommendations, October 1 was declared the Day of Older Persons.
